Tegan was born Oct 25th, 2009 at 11pm after 7 hours of labor. My water broke at 4:15pm on Sunday while watching the Bucs game (I think it was the Bucs game that did it). Anyways... thankfully we had just packed the hospital bags the day before. At about 7pm I was 4cm dilated and having contractions 3 min apart. I spent the majority of the laboring on a birthing ball, which really worked great for me. And I think it really helped to progress things along quite quickly. It was probably at around 10:15pm that I had the urge to start pushing. I pushed for about 30 min with the help of my Fiance', Mom, Sister, and the awesome OB nurse Kim. Tegan was born at 11pm, with no medication! 4lbs 7oz
.
She came 6 weeks early. So she has spent the last week and 4 days in the NICU, which has been an emotional rollercoaster for me. But she has been doing great!
She first was on a CPAP because she was having some difficulty breathing, and had a central line placed in her umbilical cord. After a chest Xray they found her to have a small pneumothorax so she was taken off the CPAP and put under an Oxygen hood. During this time, I was pumping and she was getting her milk thru a small tube inserted in her mouth and into her stomach. After doing well under the Oxygen hood she was switched to 2L of oxygen with a Nasal Cannula. Then to 1L!
.
She liked to pull on things and kept pulling her O2 out of her nose so they eventually took it out and she was doing fine on Room Air.
I got to hold her skin to skin for the first time.
And change her diaper!
As of today.. she is eating 36oz! Almost a total feeding, which is 38oz! She is taking a bottle and we are starting to introduce her to the nipple for breastfeeding. She no longer has her picc line and IV fluids. She's also in a regular bassinet. So discharge is within sight!
